Alexandra Goldesberry, Peyton Brehm, and Ariyanna Berning were selected by the VCHS Social Studies department (out of a larger list of interested students) to attend Senator Jason Plummer Youth Advisory Council. The students are broken into small groups with (this year 80) other students from the 54th Congressional District. They hear from Senator Plummer and other guest speakers in the morning. In the afternoon, the students will discuss a public policy issue in the fall session and then debate it at the spring session at the state Capitol. In the spring, the students will travel to Springfield for the day and be able to experience the legislative process and participate in a mock committee. The idea behind this initiative is to engage students who are interested in careers in public service to connect with elected officials and other leaders and learn about the legislative process.
