Over 60 community members gathered at the YMCA on Tuesday evening to talk about one guiding question:
āWhat kind of community do we want to be?ā
The Vandalia Civic Advancement group had a kick off panel of local leaders discussing community development.
One thing rang true the entire evening - Unity
Hereās what was discussed:
⢠$50M+ in recent community investment
⢠Growing school enrollment and workforce pathways
⢠Desirable quality of life assets
⢠Breaking down institutional silos
⢠Strategic infrastructure planning
⢠Attracting remote workers and return migration
⢠Housing balance across generations
⢠Supporting both young families and older adults
For the first time in decades, leadership across the City, School District, County, Park District, YMCA, healthcare, and business community are sitting at the same table with one goal:
Intentional, coordinated, generational progress.
We often get bogged down on all of the negativity that we see and hear, especially on social media. However, if you make your way through that, you realize our community has the ingredients for success, and that we are already changing for the better!
If you couldnāt attend ā stay engaged. Please take the survey to help us move forward!

Weāre kicking things off with an introductory community conversation ā a chance to learn more about why intentional planning matters, how communities work better together, and how we can strengthen investment and quality of life for current and future generations.

Community members, business leaders, and anyone interested in the future of our area are encouraged to attend.
We look forward to the conversation.

All families should have received an email from our Stopfinder app. If you have not received an email, please notify the transportation department. ALL FAMILIES are asked to review and confirm that their childās transportation information is correct (even if your child does not normally ride the bus!).
Additionally, students are no longer permitted to ride the bus with other students due to overcrowding. If a student is having a sleepover or has an additional student staying with them, families must make alternate transportation arrangements to and from school.
Thank you for your understanding, and we apologize for any inconvenience.
If you do not receive the email or need assistance, please call us at 618-283-8135 or email transportation@vandals203.org.

Due to a shortage of drivers, we need to cut one bus route beginning in the second semester. This change will take effect on January 6, 2026.
You will receive an email invitation to download our new app, Stopfinder. Once you download the app, please open it and scroll to January 6 to view your childās updated stop, bus, and pickup time. We encourage you to review the schedule for every day of the week to ensure it is correct. Times will be updated over the next week as drivers drive and learn new routes, and update their times accordingly.
If you do not receive the email or need assistance, please call us at 618-283-8135 or email transportation@vandals203.org.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to provide the best possible service to our families.
